A Cow based Economics Lesson;

SOCIALISM
You have 2 cows.
You give one to your neighbor.

COMMUNISM
You have 2 cows.
The State takes both and gives you some milk.

FASCISM
You have 2 cows.
The State takes both and sells you some milk.

NAZISM
You have 2 cows.
The State takes both and shoots you.

BUREAUCRATISM
You have 2 cows.
The State takes both, shoots one, milks the other, and then throws the milk away.

TRADITIONAL CAPITALISM
You have two cows.
You sell one and buy a bull.
Your herd multiplies, and the economy grows.
You sell them and retire on the income.

ROYAL BANK OF SCOTLAND (VENTURE) CAPITALISM
You have two cows.
You sell three of them to your publicly listed company, using letters of credit opened by your brother-in-law at the bank, then execute a debt/equity swap with an associated general offer so that you get all four cows back, with a tax exemption for five cows.
The milk rights of the six cows are transferred via an intermediary to a Cayman Island Company secretly owned by the majority shareholder who sells the rights to all seven cows back to your listed company.
The annual report says the company owns eight cows, with an option on one more.
You sell one cow to buy a new president of the United States , leaving you with nine cows.
No balance sheet provided with the release.
The public then buys your bull.

SURREALISM
You have two giraffes.
The government requires you to take harmonica lessons.

AN AMERICAN CORPORATION
You have two cows.
You sell one, and force the other to produce the milk of four cows.
Later, you hire a consultant to analyze why the cow has dropped dead.

A FRENCH CORPORATION
You have two cows.
You go on strike, organize a riot, and block the roads, because you
want three cows.

A JAPANESE CORPORATION
You have two cows.
You redesign them so they are one-tenth the size of an ordinary cow and produce twenty times the milk.
You then create a clever cow cartoon image called a Cowkimona and market it worldwide.

AN ITALIAN CORPORATION
You have two cows, but you don't know where they are.
You decide to have lunch.

A SWISS CORPORATION
You have 5000 cows. None of them belong to you.
You charge the owners for storing them.

A CHINESE CORPORATION
You have two cows.
You have 300 people milking them.
You claim that you have full employment, and high bovine productivity.
You arrest the newsman who reported the real situation.

AN INDIAN CORPORATION
You have two cows.
You worship them.

A BRITISH CORPORATION
You have two cows.
Both are mad.

AN IRAQI CORPORATION
Everyone thinks you have lots of cows.
You tell them that you have none.
No-one believes you, so they bomb the ** out of you and invade your country.
You still have no cows, but at least you are now a Democracy.

AN AUSTRALIAN CORPORATION
You have two cows.
Business seems pretty good.
You close the office and go for a few beers to celebrate.

A NEW ZEALAND CORPORATION
You have two cows.
The one on the left looks very attractive.

Wanted to share this blog post - http://badrap-blog.blogspot.com/2011/11/ace-fitting-mascot-for-detroit-city.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+blogspot%2FyDpfV+%28BAD+RAP+Blog%29&utm_content=FaceBook What happened to this poor dog is so sad. :( It could have been Molly.

Chris and I adopted Molly in March of this year. She is a Pitt mix. (Most likely Pitt/Boxer/Lab). She was an abandoned puppy found under a porch in Detroit. She was very skittish and a bit skinny when we got her from the rescue. But she's a happy and healthy and bouncy eleven month old now. I'm glad someone gave her the chance....cause she's such a good dog.

Sakai Classroom Rant/Feedback

I just wanted to send in my thoughts/criticisms/complaints on the new Sakai classroom system. I've unfortunately had a tough time with the changeover and I long to have the old Educator system back. I dread logging into my classes using Sakai cause I am immediately overwhelmed and frustrated. (I use a variety of programs personally and through my job...and after working 45+ hours a week with troublesome software/applications, I'm in no mood to deal with it while furthering my education and paying $750 a class for it - it's my philosophy that if I have to deal with troublesome software, the developers should pay me)! ;)

At first, I thought this would be a great change to Educator, because Educator was pretty simplistic and fairly old. (I remember taking an online class at my community college in 2004/2005 and it was the same one). However, it was functional, easy to use, and had some features that I am missing with Sakai.

Forums: The entire Forums main page hits you like a ton of bricks as it is very overwhelming and unorganized. The main topics show subtopics and crowds the page. As the main topics are divided into Weeks (in the two classes I am currently taking) each main topic takes up 2-3 inches of screen space and requires scrolling through the entire page to see all the main topics. It would be beneficial just having the main topics show as clickable links that you could expand or be clickable to a new page where we would then see the instructors main post as well as the posts of our peers. (The gaming forums I maintained had better organization and where easier to navigate as well as view than Sakai). Educator's Forums (Discussion Boards) were way superior than Sakai.

There is also no way to track where you posted on the Forums. In order to do that, one must expand every message and utilize CTRL+F and search for your name or alternatively write it down on paper or in Word who you responded to and what day. I loved the feature in Educator where I could look at my participation and look where I had posted as well as the time. This is a feature that needs to be implemented.

Opening up multiple tabs of Sakai - I made the mistake of typing up one of my course responses in the forum text box. I wanted to reference something in the original post (not the one I was replying to). Clicked on Forums from a new tab and was brought to a blank response box (while in my other tab, I had my nearly completed response) I navigated back to the post I wanted to reference and finished typing in my first tab and clicked submit. My response was no where to be found. It is very useful to be able to open up multiple tabs and view the thread in its entirety...however I only trust typing everything up in Word and then copying and pasting over after this mishap. My other complaint with the Sakai text box for forums, it does not allow you to right click on a misspelled word to correct it, but makes you run through the spell check (which constantly is adding words and shows something completely different than what I have entered in the text box). I expected it to work again like a regular forum or anything within a browser.

Messaging: I do not like that it is separated by class. There are no notifications unless you set it up to send a copy of messages received to an email address. In Educator, a notification would appear at the top of the screen when you refreshed a page or logged in. Having separate "Message" inboxes for each class as well as not having notification is rather pointless. Why isn't the MyCampus Email utilized instead?

Assignments: The two classes I'm currently taking do not require you to upload a Word doc or copy your "forum posting assignment answer" into the text box on the Assignment Submission page. However, in order to submit and assignment for grading, there has to be something entered in that box. There should be nothing required in that text box in order to submit. It was not required in Educator. I took a fair amount of classes through Educator, and the reason they wanted us to submit was to notify them when we had completed our posts and it was a convenient time-stamped record of when we finished.

Grades - I'd like to see a letter grade next to the percentage as well just like in Educator as well as the percentage of assignments completed etc.

I've been using Sakai for about 5 weeks now, and as I mentioned earlier, I dread logging into my classes because of it.

I really fail at blogging. XD

Currently in the process of buying a house. It's terrible and chaotic.
Lots of stuff has happened. One of these days I'll write about it.

I blame sex for making my back/hip feel better. Great way to loosen some muscles and get some stretching in!! XD

Why is it that I feel so jealous of all these younger and insignificant and uneducated people having children......

I am lackadaisical when it comes to blogging.....

A lot has happened since I last posted.

Chris and I got hitched January 9, 2010. It was a very nice wedding. Very small and simple.

My job is going well at the moment. I was temporarily fired for two weeks in February. But they offered me my job back two weeks later. I am very grateful.

Spring is upon us. I'm in Week 6 of my first three 8 week courses. And they are kicking my ass.

That's the quick update for now!

My thoughts right now are - not enough time to read. Need to start knitting again.

Wednesday, October 14, 2009

It has been one week with no pop.

Of course the scale doesn't indicate any change but I need to implement walking Tesla more.

However, that's going to have to wait until I finish knitting his sweater. :)

PLOTTING!

I'm pretty sure Chris and I will be able to make this a reality.

I'm so excited. I've found the venue. http://www.weddingbellschapel.com/

Love the outdoor garden gazebo thingy. And it's pretty reasonable.

I've picked out a dress. I refuse to be married in white. I'm getting a cute red cocktail dress. I want something along the lines of: http://www.davidsbridal.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplayView?langId=-1&catalogId=10051&storeId=10052&catentryId=6096807

In Apple. I'm going with Sarah to check them out today as well as maybe at Deb.

I've plotted out the money. And we'll have more than enough if we are frugal until January.

I'm totally excited and can't wait to move and I can't wait to go to Las Vegas!

Friday, October 2, 2009

I am going to embark on one of my most reckless adventures yet!

I am in the midst of plotting to elope to Las Vegas, NV January 18-20, 2009.

I'm thinking of chronicling my adventures and plotting along the way.

I have never been on a commercial jet before. I have been to Nevada but that was when I was twelve years old and on vacation with my parents. I remember having a cold and sleeping most of the time in the back of the van.

I am going to be marrying the luff of my life - Christopher Michael Porter.

We've technically been engaged since September 2007 when I gave him a video game that he really wanted.

Amidst our issues and what not we've been dating for three years now. We are two peas in a pod.

He might not have a job - but I'd rather have my best friend with me rather than someone who just provides money for me.

I decided that January 19, 2010 is going to be it! 19 is Steve Yzerman's jersey number and he is one of Chris' heroes.

I'm excited!!
